UW Oshkosh STEM Outreach provides programming both on and off campus.
On-campus we welcome students in grades 2 – 8 for public programs which are offered on the week-end or during the week in summer. We also offer group programming on campus during the academic year where we welcome K-12 students to campus for in-depth exploration of a particular area of focus. We have programs specifically geared towards completing badges for Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of the USA.
Off-campus we provide themed activities and Chemistry Demonstration Shows. Many area elementary schools have invited our program to present during Family Nights or as enrichment during after-school programs. We have partnered with the Oshkosh Area School District to provide hands-on experiences during Family STEM Nights at each of the District’s five middle schools. Additional partners include the Boys and Girls Club, public libraries throughout the Fox Valley, Oshkosh Area Chamber of Commerce, and family-oriented festivals and celebrations.
For over 30 years we hosted the Middle School regional tournament for Science Olympiad. During this event we had over 400 students from nearly four dozen teams on campus. This event occured in mid-February. At the end of the 2017 competition year, Middle School and High School divisions were merged and came under the direction of Wisconsin Science Olympiad.
During the summer months we have offered professional development opportunities for teachers from around the state. UW Oshkosh is a unique living learning laboratory for learning about environmental sustainability and aquatic ecology.
